Objective : This live, hands-on course involves practical exercises and real-life simulations. The class provides participants with an understanding of the proper handling of digital evidence from the initial seizure of the computer/media to acquisition, and then progresses to the analysis of the data, concluding with archiving and validating the data.
Course Syllabus
Who Should Attend : This course is intended for law enforcement officers, computer forensic examiners, corporate and private investigators, and network security personnel. Participants may have minimal computer skills and may be new to the field of computer forensics.
Prerequisites : Basic computer skills. Advance preparation for this course is not required.
Note : Each student must bring their own laptops to the class. Laptop minimum requirements will be provided upon registration.

EnCase® v6 Computer Forensics I addresses the following areas:
- What constitutes digital evidence and how computers work
- Overview of the EnCase Computer Forensic Methodology
- Basic structures of the FAT and NTFS file systems
- Creating a case and previewing/acquiring media
- Conducting basic keyword searches
- Analyzing file signatures and viewing files
- Restoring evidence
- Archiving files and data created through the analysis process
- Preparing evidence for presentation in court
- Verifying the evidence file
